The Olympic campaign starts now!
What?
Laser Standard
Why?
I have always aspired to the Olympic Sailors representing their countries and showing off what they got on the biggest stage possible. This has made it my dream to one day take part in the Olympics and do so to the best of my ability, so I have gone out and made that my target, with massive amounts of inspiration, it is now down to me to pull the strings and put in the work to make it happen!
How?
I will need to plan it out very carefully, juggling the important things such as finance, training and sponsors, but also keeping a close eye on enjoying it and making it a worth while experience.
This will involve securing a gracious sponsor, who acknowledges my potential and will support it through out, no matter what, as long as the end goal is always kept in sight! The necessity of a sponsor is huge, in order to finance the traveling expenses and gear but also to put a representation to the sailor, and have him associated with a worth while brand.
Where?
Not as obvious as it may seem :) the olympics themselves will be in Rio De Janeiro, but the 5 1/2 years before that and 2,000 hours worth of training will be the crucial ingredient to the success. I will be based in two places; my home town Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and the south coast of England.
Dubai Provides the perfect conditions to undertake a 365 days a year training program with the weather always be good enough to go sailing! The Uni courses I am applying to compliment the campaign very well too, with all the University Campuses being on the South Coast and near to sailing Clubs/Academies, but also the courses I am interested in are all based around Either Sport or Sailing!
I am going to be taking a 4 year course; Therefor I will have up to Summer 2014 to complete my degree, and then a year and a half off in order to fine tune my training up to the caliber of an Olympian.
Who?
I will be training with Local Elite Level sailors in the UAE, along with an Internship with Oman Sail, where I will become familiar with the training ways of Olympic Medalist Paul Goodison. My competition at the moment lies with Adel Khalid, UAE ranked number one Laser Sailor and Professional Red Bull Athlete. He has been to the Beijing Olympics and has been now training hard to be able to compete at London 2012. That will be my first and biggest ongoing test!
I will be coached by Ex Olympic campaigner Jeremy Grogono, who has an infinite amount of experience which he can share. Definetly a key asset to the Campaign!
